Electrical Engineer

PURPOSE: The Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Engineering/Maintenance Manager and provides the necessary support to accomplish the refinery’s objectives in the most safe, economical, and technically feasible manner. This position is responsible for providing engineering services to optimize equipment life and plant profitability. This position is also responsible for providing electrical engineering support to the capital projects and the site.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Designs and specifies electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, relays, generators, substations, buses, starters, transformers, and other industrial electrical equipment up to 15KV.

•Designs, specifies, and maintains instrumentation, analyzers, and control systems.

•Ensures compliance with Industry standards, RAGAGEP, and Federal and State regulations.

•Assists and directs power distribution system repairs and upgrades as required.

•Develops and assists in implementation PM(s) and repair plans of refinery electrical power distribution systems.

•Ensures all work is performed safely and in accordance with all company procedures.

•Drives reliability efforts by providing technical assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems.

•Analyzes equipment histories and make recommendations for reliability improvement and failure elimination.

•Coordinates Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) processes, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), and track the implementation of recommendations through resolution.

•Utilizes reliability tools such as failure calculations, failure evaluations, and cost and risk analysis to evaluate and prioritize reliability issues.

•Participates in audits to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities such as equipment repairs, part quality, and failure investigation processes.

•Assists Operations, Product Control, and Maintenance Departments in developing procedures, training, and processes to ensure equipment is operated within its design parameters.

•Conducts life cycle cost analysis on new and critical equipment.

•Reviews equipment specifications and standards and develop recommendations for reliability improvement.

•Recommends and executes projects and/or studies to support overall plant reliability.

•Develops cost justification for reliability improvement.

•Trains on new technologies and methods for maintaining equipment to increase reliability.

•Continues to improve the reliability tools and methods utilized in increasing plant reliability.

•Assists in spare parts review for ensuring equipment maintainability and availability.

•Maintains and updates electrical equipment standards and participate in their continual improvement.

•Other activities as assigned by the management team.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

•Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required.

•5-7 years of experience working within a refining, chemical, power distribution, and/or heavy industrial environment

•Knowledge of Electrical Safety standards and Area Electrical Classification standards (NFPA, NEC, and NETA)

•Read, understand & develop drawings including One-Lines, P&IDs, schematics, and connection diagrams.

•Evaluate & select suppliers for specific electrical power distribution and instrumentation applications.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

•10+ years of experience working within a refining, chemical, power distribution, and/or heavy industrial environment

•Instrumentation analyzer and PLC/controls experience
