MAINTENANCE MANAGER - SOUTH AMERICA

The Mine Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, and overseeing all maintenance activities for the mining operation, ensuring the highest levels of availability, reliability, and safety of loading and hauling equipment, auxiliary equipment, and supporting facilities. The position is responsible for maximizing the availability, reliability, and operational efficiency of the operation’s physical assets while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and cost control standards.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Define, implement, and lead the maintenance and asset management strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives through long-term planning, optimization of asset reliability and availability, fleet renewal, and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and maintenance best practices.

·       Manage the safe and efficient execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies, ensuring maximum equipment availability, reliability, and performance through the implementation of continuous improvement programs, failure and root cause analysis, predictive maintenance technologies, and the monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs).

·       Manage the strategy for major component management and equipment life cycle, defining and implementing plans for the replacement, repair, and rebuilding of critical components, optimizing their performance and life cycle cost, managing rotable component programs, and supporting planning for equipment renewal and capital acquisition.

·       Manage workshops, infrastructure, and maintenance services, ensuring their safe and efficient operation and alignment with current and future operational needs, through the supervision of tools, lifting equipment, specialized services, field maintenance, lubrication, welding, and other support resources.

·       Lead the management of health, safety, and environmental performance in maintenance operations, promoting a preventive culture, ensuring the identification and control of critical risks, and leading the investigation of incidents, major failures, and high-potential events to strengthen operational performance and continuous improvement.

·       Manage the financial performance of the maintenance area through the planning, administration, and control of operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost optimization, efficient use of resources, life cycle cost analysis of equipment, and support for investment evaluation.

·       Manage maintenance contracts and relationships with contractors, manufacturers, and strategic suppliers, ensuring the efficient delivery of specialized services, compliance with company standards, the required technical support, and proper management of warranties and technical campaigns.

·       Lead, develop, and manage the maintenance team, including supervisors, superintendents, and technical personnel, promoting continuous training, certification, and skills development, implementing succession plans for critical roles, and fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.

·       Manage maintenance department performance reporting and organizational relationships by preparing and presenting reports to senior management, participating in planning and operational review forums, coordinating with other areas to achieve operational objectives, and providing recommendations on fleet performance, maintenance strategy, and capital investments.

EDUCATION:

·       Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. (Preferred)

·       Higher Technician, Technical training in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. (Mandatory)

WORK EXPERIENCIE:

·       General work experience in areas related to the position. 15 years (Mandatory)

·       Experience in supervisory or management positions.  8 years (Mandatory)

·       Proven experience in open-pit mining operations at 2 to 3 mines. (Mandatory)

·       Experience managing large-scale maintenance workshops.  (Mandatory)

·       Proven track record of improving availability, reliability, and cost control.  (Mandatory)

·       Experience leading large teams in 24/7 continuous operations. (Mandatory)

·       Proven experience in maintenance of large mining haul trucks and experience with diesel and diesel-electric fleets. (Mandatory)

·       Experience with diesel-hydraulic shovels will be considered an advantage. (Preferred)

KNOWLEGDES AND OTHER REQUERIMENTS:

Proven experience in the maintenance of heavy mining equipment, including the operation and management of workshops for trucks, loaders, drills, and auxiliary equipment. Strong expertise is required in maintenance planning and scheduling, interpretation of performance indicators, failure analysis and reliability engineering, budget management and cost control, inventory and critical spare parts management, use of maintenance management systems, and management of maintenance service contracts.    

Experience in developing and leading supervisors and technical personnel, with strong decision-making skills under pressure, a results-oriented mindset, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, effective conflict resolution, strategic planning capabilities, and a strong commitment to safety.
