Mine Manager
Role
This role is responsible for leading Mine Operations, Engineering, planning and continuous business improvement. This role also supports the General Manager and the rest of the Management Team to oversee the operations of the site.
Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with statutory / legislative and Corporate requirements
Integrate SHE initiatives into departmental planning, decision making, systems and processes
Promote awareness and establish appropriate departmental targets to prevent harm
Ensure all hazards and sources of loss are identified, evaluated, and controlled in accordance with company SHE Policies and the Safety Management Standards
Be accountable for safety, health and environment activities within your department
Ensure fitness for work compliance throughout workforce
Conduct business in exemplary manner in terms of ethical, commercial, legislative and community expectations and requirements.
Promote the sustainable strategy for our community
Develop a high level of safety and environmental awareness amongst your team
Consistently apply workplace management procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, agreed values and behaviors and Code of Conduct
Appropriately prioritizing activity to continuously achieve targets
Establish processes/systems to align with the Business Plan and assist in exceeding expectations
Lead Mine Operations positive growth and improvement of all work activities and performance standards
Manage Mine Operations personnel to ensure adherence to approved procedures and to contribute to quality improvement within the operation
Manage mine production and development in accordance with short- and long-term schedules and optimize cost effective recovery from the ore reserve.
Ensure mine infrastructure and mobile equipment is maintained to a standard that allows planned targets to be met and does not compromise the long-term integrity of assets.
Coordinate Mine Engineering, Geotechnical and Geological input through the Mine Technical Services Department or consultants as required for achieving plan targets.
Coordinate the Mining Department operating budget.
Manage expenditure to within budget and reforecast as required to achieve the Annual Plan.
Ensure all projects are effectively budgeted and monitored within time, quality and cost constraints.
Understand cost drivers in the mining department and seek continuous improvement in unit cost performance.
Achieve or surpass production objectives in accordance with budget and commercial requirements
Ensure that systems and processes for the operations are established such that production targets are met, and losses reduced.
Utilize assets to manage a quality outcome and minimize costs.
Achieve or exceed customer expectations by ensuring supply & specifications of product are met
Ensure planning is reliable, robust and repeatable
Promote and reward innovation to improve methods and processes of the mining business
Influence best practice in planning activities before implementation
Requirements
Degree in Mining Engineering or an associated field
15 years mining experience, preferably underground
10 years’ experience in roles with increasing responsibility in either Mine Engineering / Mine Management
Experience in working to budgets and capital cost expectation
Demonstrated ability to contribute and work effectively in a group as a team leader
Provides current, direct, complete and actionable positive and corrective feedback to others in a prompt and efficient manner
Results driven achiever with exemplary planning and organization skills
Strong communication and leadership skills
Sound methods and approaches to persuade, convince or influence others
Ability to pass on skills and experience to others.
