Process Engineer, Aspen+ Modeling
This position will help support the business and future of Operations. The engineer will primarily be tasked with process model and process flow diagram development. This will include development of new models, as well as providing support for existing models. Prior experience with Aspen plus® is a MUST. The candidate must have relevant chemical/process engineering modeling and design experience. Experience in the mining sector is not required.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the team, we would look to you to deliver on the following:
Assist the Process Engineering Team in development of process models for chemical production in Aspen plus®.
Take ownership of the process model(s) and resolve convergence issues.
Use the developed process model(s) to generate Heat & Material Balance (HMB) for equipment sizing and design purposes.
Draft process flow diagrams (PFDs) in Bluebeam Revu and Aspen Basic Engineering® for both internal and external distribution.
Perform calculations in Microsoft Excel as required.
Act as a critical team member within the Process Engineering Team.
Work with current modeling process engineers to become familiar and competent with existing models and assist where needed.
Compile technical reports/PowerPoint slides as required for projects or research and development initiatives.
Contribute ideas to improve the process design.
Help ensure a safe working environment and provide a daily commitment to zero harm to employees, contractors, and environment.
Develops, enhances, and implements systems that increase efficiency and optimize all phases of service or production processes, from design to manufacturing.
Oversees process design projects and ensures the efficient and safe functioning of process related producing a product, service, or substance.
Implements methods and process designs, creates prototypes, tests, and makes necessary modifications where required.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, or another relevant field.
2-3 years’ experience serving as a process engineer, experience with Aspen Plus®, preferably designing and building process models from scratch.
Strong understanding of chemical process engineering principles, unit operations and process development experience.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Aspen Plus® and Aspen Basic Engineering®.
Electrolyte and thermodynamic modeling experience preferred (OLI® or other).
Effective and open communication with the ability to motivate team members toward a goal within a flat reporting structure.
Ability to multi-task and run several projects in parallel, while prioritizing and pursuing critical-path tasks on an accelerating schedule.
Ability to critically challenge assumptions, “think outside the box”, and deliver creative solutions.
