Senior Safety Coordinator

The position is responsible with assisting in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs that support the Operation. Responsible for ensuring that workplace practices comply with federal, state and company standards and, together with the site leadership team and site supervision, promote activities designed to maintain and to improve health and safety throughout the operation. Assist in the development and oversee work direction of Safety Coordinators, Industrial Hygienists and Safety Technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance to the H&S Management System

  • Maintain current contractor safety programs

  • Regularly inspect the operation for compliance with MSHA regulations and company policies/procedures

  • Identify, develop, and communicate best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks and raise health and safety awareness. Conduct and lead risk assessments to identify and control exposures to workplace hazards. 

  • Oversee the inherent fire protection programs; i.e. fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems

  • Participating member of the Health & Safety Committee Team

  • Coordinate emergency response procedures in the event of an emergency

  • Lead/Assist with accident investigations

  • Initiate/submit 1st Report of Injury forms for work-related injuries

  • Noise sampling and all duties regarding compliance with the Hearing Conservation Program

  • Be a participating member of the Safety Team either as a member or resource

  • Air monitoring activities regarding chemical and dust exposure limits

  • Submit all required MSHA reports in a timely manner

  • Comply with duties assigned within the Security Control Group

Requirements 

  • Follow all procedures and safety measures to assure safe production (Required)

  • Knowledgeable of MSHA 30 CFR parts 45, 47, 48, 50, 56, 58, 62 and 100 standards (Preferred)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) (Preferred)

  • Experienced using MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), SharePoint and Oracle

  • MSHA instructor IS (surface) Blue Card certificate (Preferred)

  • Able to lift 50 lbs. on an occasional basis

  • Able to walk up and down slopes and uneven ground daily

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in mining, or related field (Required)

  • Will accept education as training experience

  • Must hold and maintain a CPR/AED certification (Required)

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Work as a team member and communicate openly with others

  • Self-directed and able to take leadership role on many projects

  • Willing to stop work for safety concerns and always abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures
