Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will provide functional accounting leadership and guidance to the accounting team and operational functions. This position will be responsible for the site following corporate accounting policies and adherence to SOX controls. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the performance of the following duties in a safe and productive manner:

 Job Duties 

  • Manages assigned finance improvement initiatives.

  • Finance lead for monthly and annual review of assigned cost areas and coordination with managers on any issue resolution.

  • Assist in preparation of quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting, in conjunction with other members of the accounting department, ensuring that planning is in line with mine plans and project results and timely submission of results to corporate office. 

  • Review and monitor assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts to meet monthly and internal audit requirements.

  • Responsible for month-end duties including but not limited to, monthly cost review, journal entry preparation, reconciliations and self-review of work to ensure accuracy.  

  • Responsible for monthly accounting for revenue, inventory and cost of sales entries and analysis.

  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with site personnel to ensure accurate reporting of costs.

  • Assess and pursue opportunities to improve the quality of cost reporting and evaluation for the site.

  • Accounting records will be maintained to comply with internal control requirements.

  • Lead the finance team in capital reporting, review of accounts payable costing details and cost issue resolution.

  • Oversight of the accounts payable area and understanding the inter-play of costing through the system to the impact on the reporting of departmental costs.

  • The key member of following corporate accounting policy and following SOX controls.

  • Advising management on revision of controls and setting up additional controls as required to meet site objectives.

  • Lead member of the finance team in the internal and external audit process.

  • Guiding the site accounting to facilitate an understanding of the more complex monthly closing journal entries.

  • Follow up with vendors concerning monthly account statement review and issue resolution.

  Positions Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related equivalent.

  • 5 -10 years’ experience in accounting and financial evaluation.

  • Mining, Oil and Gas or Heavy Industrial experience preferred.

  • Strong accounting and analytical skills.

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.

  • Advanced skills in critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.

  • Advanced computer skills using a variety of computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.

  • Knowledge of and/or ability to perform tasks in Oracle, and Vena preferred. 

  • CPA or CMA preferred
