Senior Management Accountant

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Management Accountant to join our finance team with a specific focus on Capital Project Management and Analysis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a strong background in capital budgeting, Authorization For Expenditures (AFE), financial analysis, and a deep understanding of financial metrics such as NPV (Net Present Value) and ROI (Return on Investment). Ideal candidates will also have experience in the mining industry, given the specific needs in this sector.

Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Management Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all financial aspects related to capital projects. This includes, but is not limited to:

1. Capital Budgeting:

   - Develop and manage the annual capital budget, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals and objectives.

   - Assist in prioritization of project selection and implementation

   - Work closely with various departments to gather project data and assess the feasibility and financial viability of proposed capital projects.

   - Perform cost-benefit analysis, risk assessment, and sensitivity analysis to support decision-making.

   - Monitor and report on the actual vs. budgeted performance of capital projects.

2. Authorization For Expenditures (AFE):

   - Develop and review Authorization For Expenditures (AFE) documents for capital projects.

   - Evaluate the financial and operational feasibility of AFE requests, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

   - Collaborate with project managers to provide financial guidance, ensuring that projects are completed within budget.

3. Financial Analysis and Reporting:

   - Prepare detailed financial reports and analysis on capital project performance, including variance analysis and recommendations for corrective actions.

   - Collaborate with the finance team to assess the impact of capital projects on the company's financial statements.

   - Provide regular updates to senior management on the status of capital projects, including financial risks and opportunities.

4. Compliance and Risk Management:

   - Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and internal controls in all capital project accounting processes.

   - Identify and mitigate financial and implementation risks associated with capital projects, developing risk management strategies.

5. Financial Metrics:

   - Calculate and analyze financial metrics such as NPV (Net Present Value), ROI (Return on Investment), and other relevant KPIs to assess the economic viability of capital projects.

   - Provide insights and recommendations based on financial metric analyses to support investment decisions. 

6. Process Improvement:

   - Continuously review and enhance capital project accounting processes to streamline and optimize efficiency.

   - Implement best practices and technology solutions to improve data accuracy and reporting.

 

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, the Senior Management Accountant should possess the following qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is a plus, but not required.

- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in capital project accounting or finance, capital budgeting, and AFE processes.

- Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.

- Proficiency in financial modeling and advanced spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).

- Knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and internal controls.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.

- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

- Previous experience in the mining industry is ideal
